The accumulation of polyethylene (PE) fines during the production of polyolefins can reduce the quality of the final product and block key equipment, resulting in costly downtime for maintenance. Removal of harmful PE fines from the air stream is essential to protect process equipment from malfunctions and ensure the highest quality of polyolefin products.
In the gas phase production process, polyethylene and polypropylene resin particles can grow and contaminate production. Contaminated raw materials will reduce the reaction rate and yield, or cause the final product to fail to meet customer or market requirements for transparency or cleanliness. Alfa Chemistry can provide a wealth of polyolefin production solutions to keep the production process clean.
PE Fines Removal Technology
Effective filtration in the air recovery process is essential for polyolefin production to prevent the harmful accumulation of PE fines, which are usually not fully polymerized and can become very sticky, causing equipment failure. Our advanced metal filter system has been carefully designed to effectively remove the destructive fine powder downstream of the reactor and upstream of the compressor without the potentially catastrophic risk of ordinary bag filters.
The innovative cartridge filter eliminates tearing, sealing problems, and potential fire hazards caused by static sparks. The filtration solution effectively eliminates PE fines and minimizes costly downtime.
Removal of Porous Metal Media Particles from Airflow
Alfa Chemistry filters are specifically designed to optimize particle capture to keep production clean. In the gas phase process for the production of polyethylene and polypropylene, the blowback filter is an ideal solution for the product recovery and catalyst preparation steps, which improves the recovery of polymer powder from the product discharge tank and various exhaust ports in the process. In these methods, polyethylene is formed in a fluidized bed reactor.
Once the resin particles grow to a certain size, they are released into the discharge tank. The backflush filter is used to recover powder from the vents of the storage tank. This procedure allows the particle-free gas to be recycled back to the reactor. In the subsequent processing steps, there is a low-pressure exhaust port, which can also be sent to the blowback system. This maximizes product output and minimizes air emissions.
The porous metal fiber media is specifically designed to optimize particle capture through its asymmetrically tapered pore structure. This structure uses the finest pores on the upstream side of the filter media to ensure that particles are captured on the first surface of the filter, where they can be easily removed by in-situ countercurrent operation. The use of Alfa Chemistry filters can ensure the smallest atmospheric mood and the largest product output.
