Filtration Solutions for Polyester Film Production

Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) belongs to the category of polymers called thermoplastic polymer resins in the polyester family and has many applications in fibers, containers, and injection molding, and biaxially stretched films. Biaxially oriented polyethylene terephthalate (BOPET) is made by extruding a molten polymer film onto a cooling roll, which quenches it into an amorphous state. Then, biaxial orientation occurs through a stretching process. After the stretching operation is completed, the film is heat-set under tension in a stretching oven at a temperature usually higher than 200 ℃. Due to the unique properties of BOPET film, such as high tensile strength, chemical stability, gas barrier properties, transparency, reflectivity, it is widely used.

Polyester Film Production

Many applications have been developed for BOPET film, including flexible packaging and food contact applications. In addition, due to its excellent electrical properties, it has been used in electronic products, for example as a carrier for flexible printed circuits. An emerging and developing application of BOPET film is graphic art, where engineering plans and architectural drawings are usually drawn on BOPET film sheets.

Alfa Chemistry provides customers with filtration solutions for the biaxially oriented polyethylene terephthalate (BOPET) film process. It uses advanced proprietary technology to improve product consistency and quality while reducing downtime to achieve efficient and simplified operations.

PET Melt Filtration

Effective filtration is extremely important at the beginning of the polyester film process, which begins with an extruded PET melt. The polyester melt must be filtered to remove hard and soft particles, such as gels and physical contamination, which can cause tearing fish eyes, or other such abnormalities on the film surface. Lack of high-quality filtration can lead to frequent replacement or replacement of filters, which is costly and disrupts the continuous film production process.

In order to solve these problems, we have developed the most advanced PET melt filtration solution. We use CPF technology with blisks and sintered metal fibers supported by wire mesh for continuous melt filtration, which is ideal for removing gels and particles. This high-quality filtration and seamless filter conversion are necessary to eliminate the costly downtime associated with film tearing during stretching and filter replacement operations. The 3000 psid rated filter unit has extremely low-pressure drop and stable DP rise for the smoothest filtration-resulting in a high-quality polyester film final product and reduced downtime costs.
