Filtration Solutions for Polyester Resin Production

Polyester resin is a viscous liquid resin produced by the condensation reaction between diol and unsaturated dibasic acid. This polymer contains a double bond between its carbon atoms and is classified as one of the most versatile synthetic copolymers. It is simple to use and economical, and is a major component in many industries, from construction to aerospace, providing incredible physical and chemical properties.

Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) is a form of polyester. It is extruded or molded into plastic bottles and containers for packaging food and beverages, personal care products, and many other consumer products. Alfa Chemistry provides customers with advanced filtration solutions for PET resin production, which can provide optimized performance through continuous operation to provide consistent high-quality resin products and reduce operating costs.

Slurry Filtration

When the slurry undergoes an esterification process to remove gels, crosslinks, fish eyes, and hard contaminants, efficient filtration is essential. If the filtration is not sufficient, these contaminants may become a problem in the monomer and polymer stages, and have a negative impact on the final resin performance. On the contrary, if any key additives are filtered out from the original or intermediate stage, it will have an adverse effect on polymer quality and filter life. Therefore, it is essential to have filters that are customized to meet process requirements.

Slurry Filtration

Our polyester prepolymer and melt polymer filters are the best solutions for PET resin production. CPF technology uses customizable sintered metal fiber filter media, which helps to achieve a precise balance of filtration performance while achieving continuous operation and long operating life. The diverter valve helps to achieve a disturbance-free and transparent transition, thereby minimizing any pressure spikes and changes in the polymer.

Control Shear Rate

Another key aspect of properly filtering PET resin is to control the shear rate. Filters with uncontrolled shear rates can cause discoloration of the resin or promote the formation of acetaldehyde, both of which are major issues in the quality of the final product. Our melt polymer filtration system has been designed and verified to control the shear rate during the filtration process, eliminate thermal degradation of the polymer, and completely avoid the formation of acetaldehyde during the PET resin production process.

Control Shear Rate
